Vandemataram Scheme
Vande Mataram “a programme dedicated” to mothers was launched on 9th February 2004 with the objective to improve the access of safe motherhood services and to reduce the maternal and neonatal deaths significantly.
Objectives of the scheme:
- To bring about the change in health-seeking behaviour of and for expectant and new mothers and to create awareness in the family and community the need for safe motherhood.
- To involve and utilize the vast resources and specialist/trained workforce available in the private sector and the private sector infrastructure for providing obstetric care on the 9th of every month.
- To improve the acceptance and access to family planning methods through improved family planning counseling during both the antenatal and postnatal periods.
- To detect for management of RTI/STI cases in pregnant women.
- To improve institutional delivery.
- To reduce the incidence and prevalence of nutritional anaemia in pregnant women.
- To strengthen public, private and civil society partnerships.
To fulfill these objectives, Obstetricians and Gynecologists of public and private facilities and NGOs are included.
Responsibility of Doctor/Gynaecologist
- Any obstetric and gynecology specialist, maternity home, nursing home, lady doctor/mbbs doctor can be a part of it.
- After enrollment, doctors will display the Vandemataram logo at their clinic.
- Respective district medical officer will provide these clinics/doctors with Iron-Folic acid tablets, oral pills, TT injections etc. for free distribution to the beneficiaries.
- Gynecologists /Lady doctors will provide free antenatal/post-natal services for pregnant women/new mothers and family planning services to new mothers on the 9th of every month. Refer such women which is requiring treatment for complications if necessary, to pre-identified and designated centres.
- Vandematarm cards will be provided to their patients by respective doctors/clinics. In case of referral to government hospitals, upon showing this card due care is provided.
Responsibility of Government :
- To develop a suitable communication package for creating awareness amongst the people about the scheme.
- To give a LOGO BOARD to identified volunteer doctors through district from the fund of the Department of Family Welfare or any other fund at district disposal.
- To supply IFA Tablets to Vande Matram doctor for distribution to pregnant Women.
- To supply Contraceptives including IUD to Vande Matram doctor for free distribution.
- To provide Vande Mataram enrollment cards to registered doctors so that antenatal cases may be issued the same.
- To ensure the availability of supplies to the enrolled Vande Mataram doctors through local health authorities.
- To recognize the participating gynecologists/Lady doctors by giving a certificate recognizing their participation and permitting them to display that they are providing free/voluntary services as part of RCH programme.
Note
- It is a voluntary scheme
- The Vandemataram scheme does not include free treatment in private clinics.
- The Vandemataram scheme does not include abortion services
- The Vandemataram scheme does not include Intranatal services (Delivery and related complications)
