Health Care Budget 2025 UPSC
A healthcare budget is an essential element in the Union Budget. It is a financial plan for developing, maintaining and improving the country’s healthcare system. This budget covers various aspects, including infrastructure, medical research, preventive care, health insurance and public health programmes.
ALLOCATIONS :
₹99,858.56 crore (9.78% increase from FY 24-25 :₹90,958.63 crore)
- Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the pharmaceutical industry : ₹2,445 crore
- Department of Health Research : ₹3,900.69 crore
- Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) : ₹9,406 crore.
- Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM) : ₹4,200 crore
- National Health Mission (NHM) : ₹37,226.92 crore
- National Tele Mental Health Programme : ₹79.6 crore
- National Digital Health Mission : ₹340.11 crore
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Establishment of 200 daycare cancer centres in 2025-26 (Setting up of daycare cancer centres in all district hospitals in the next three years.)
- 10,000 additional seats will be added in medical colleges and hospitals towards the goal of adding 75,000 seats in the next five years
- “The ‘Heal in India’ initiative, coupled with a ₹20,000 crore allocation for promotion of medical tourism
- 36 life saving drugs to be fully exempted from custom duty; 6 life saving medicines for concessional exemption. (5%)
- 13 new patient assistance programs have also been exempted from the basic customs duty.
- Cost norms for nutritional support programmes (Saksham Anganwadi and POSHAN 2.0) to be enhanced
The exempted drugs include Tepotinib for non-small cell lung cancer, Avelumab, a monoclonal antibody for certain types of cancer, Asciminib (white blood cell cancer), Alglucosidase Alfa (Pompe disease), and Mepolizumab (severe asthma).
