New update:
The Government of India has launched the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (AMB Abhiyaan), marking a significant upgrade from the earlier Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) programme. The new operational guidelines were released by Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda during the 16th Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW)meeting held on 29 June 2026.
The revised programme adopts a more comprehensive, people-centric, and technology-enabled approach to reduce the burden of anemia across the country.
Key Highlights
1. Transition from AMB to AMB Abhiyaan
The programme now goes beyond iron supplementation and focuses on:
Early detection through regular testing
Evidence-based treatment
Healthy dietary practices
Digital monitoring and follow-up
Community participation through Jan Bhagidari/Jan Chetna
2. New 7×7×7 Strategy
The previous 6×6×6 strategy has been expanded to 7×7×7 by introducing:
Seventh Beneficiary Group
Low Birth Weight (LBW) babies (0–6 months)
Seventh Intervention
“Eating Right” – promoting regular intake of iron-rich and diversified diets
Seventh Institutional Mechanism
Strengthened Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) supported by digital tracking
3. T4 Approach Replaces T3
The earlier T3 strategy (Test, Treat, Talk) has been upgraded to T4:
Test – Regular hemoglobin screening
Treat – Standardized treatment as per national anemia protocols
Talk – Counselling on nutrition and healthy dietary habits
Track – Digital follow-up, referral, and monitoring of beneficiaries
4. Strengthened Clinical Management
For pregnant and lactating women with:
Severe anemia
Poor response to oral iron therapy
The programme recommends:
Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM)
Iron Sucrose
These intravenous iron preparations are now included as important therapeutic interventions.
5. Digital Integration
A robust digital ecosystem will support beneficiary tracking:
JANANI Portal – Pregnant women
RBSK Portal – Children
U-WIN Portal – Child health records
These platforms will eventually converge into a unified AMB Abhiyaan Portal for comprehensive monitoring, data analysis, and evidence-based planning.
